Rose Through the Window, 2019

Reclaimed Window Screen, lightbulb

(18 x 18 x 18 inches)

Using old window screens, this rose was cut and assembled to construct a distorted image of nature. The materiality of the piece creates a signifier of a window looking out to a garden. By reorienting the direction of the screen, the lamp symbolizes our disconnection with nature.  Inspired by Environmental Protection Agency data showing the average American spends 87% of their life indoors and 6% in automobiles.  Much like a rose in bloom, ‘A Rose Through the Window’ exposes the tension of interior and exterior habits of humanity.
