Augmented is a three-dimensional work that pulls together biological textures with the ideals of the human desire for control and beauty. Taking the form of lampshades, these vessels harness the power of light to illustrate the fragility of the evolving material they illuminate. Inspired by a total of 17.7 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2018, the smaller vessels represent the proportion of minimally invasive procedures undergone every day. Fragile, evolving, imperfect, yet mesmerizing, Augmented integrates the objectification of the human body and the damage we are willing to inflict on ourselves and the natural world.
